Digital Book Signing: Personalizing the Reader Experience with Kindlegraph

Total Read Time: 2 minutes

How do authors connect with their readers? For years, interacting with your favourite author meant going to meet them at a book signing. Now, it means tracking them down online to follow them on Twitter or Facebook.

This shift to an online presence is great for making the author more widely accessible, but what about the cool memorabilia factor of having something signed by the author? How do we create something collectible in the digital age?

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across this site for Kindlegraph. It’s a free platform where both authors and readers can sign in using their Twitter credentials to interact with one another.

Here’s how it works:

1. The author submits their titles to the site by providing the Amazon ASIN for their ebook and/or physical book formats. New and most requested titles are featured on the homepage.

2. Readers browse the site or search for their favourite book and submit a request for a Kindlegraph.

3. The author receives the request and writes a personalized message. The typed message is transcribed into a handwritten font.

4. The author signs the message, using their mouse as a pen (or a pen and tablet, if you happen to have one). This will take some practice.

5. The reader receives the personalized and signed message, which also contains an image of the cover of the book they selected.

Although Kindlegraphs can be sent directly to the reader’s Kindle device, the reader doesn’t have to own a Kindle or any other ereader to receive a Kindlegraph. They can choose to have it sent to them via email as a PDF file instead.

The Kindlegraphs exist separately from their associated ebook and can be loaded onto an ereader or kept on the reader’s computer to be stored together in a folder.

Sounds pretty cool, right? For more info, watch this video. You can check out my Kindlegraph page and submit requests here. ;)

Are you using Kindlegraph? How is it working for you?

  2. Hi! I'm the creator of Kindlegraph.

Thanks for this wonderful summary of the service and how it works. My goal with Kindlegraph was to create a fun, new way for authors and readers to interact but inscriptions are just the beginning. I'm currently working on several new features which will enable authors and readers to connect even more closely. Stay tuned!
